## Description

UpGuard (published 2026-07-08) mined Google's DMCA Transparency Report and the Lumen Database for takedown notices (384,286 requests covering 631,193 URLs, 2011-09-27 to 2026-05-04) that cite stolen adult content, most of it OnlyFans creators' material, hosted on government and education websites. The notices exposed 2,167 unique compromised domains in 80 countries: 646 .gov-type and 1,521 .edu-type. The hosting of such content on high-authority domains is a form of parasite SEO (also called SEO spam or search poisoning): attackers abuse the search reputation of reputable sites so lure pages rank well on Google.

The lure pages are the entry-point tier of a three-part traffic distribution system (TDS): (1) entry points that attract traffic, (2) a routing layer that filters and redirects visitors, and (3) monetization destinations such as scams and malware. UpGuard states that VexTrio, a large TDS operator, receives traffic from more than 40% of the compromised domains. UpGuard identifies four abuse methods: open redirects, reflected search poisoning, exploitation of vulnerabilities in the host site, and content tampering through automated attacks against vulnerable sites. The sources do not name specific CVEs, vulnerable products, malware families, or domain/IP indicators for the compromised sites.

Infoblox research on VexTrio provides background on the downstream monetization tier: VexTrio operates adtech/affiliate infrastructure (smartlinks, push notifications, TDS networks such as Los Pollos), self-hosted Binom trackers, IM KLO cloaking, PowerDNS-based DNS TDS, and has controlled tens of thousands of compromised websites. The link between the UpGuard dataset and that infrastructure rests on UpGuard's statement; the Infoblox facts are context and are not evidence that any specific compromised .gov/.edu site is tied to a specific VexTrio component.

A defensive side effect: because creators who own the copyright file DMCA notices, adult-content URLs on a compromised site are removed from Google results and the notices act as an early indicator of compromise. UpGuard notes that model names plus automated search-engine scanning are good keywords for detecting brand risk, and CSO Online (2026-07-17) recommends treating takedown notices as a prompt to investigate the underlying vulnerability. Hunt note: the Dark Reading source could not be fetched (HTTP 403) and was not used. A BeaconBeagle domain search for imghst-de.com returned no matches.
